Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's basketball team defeated South Carolina Central Christian College 106-89, their second win over the visitors in less than two weeks.
The first half was close for the first seventeen minutes before JWU used a 10-2 run to close the half, giving themselves a 54-46 lead at the break.
Jaylen Benson-Hollinhead had a big first period for the Wildcats, scoring 14 points and collecting 7 rebounds.Â
JWU extended their lead to as many as 13 in the first four minutes of the second period, only to see the Gladiators rally to trim the JWU lead to just four with 8:49 left. The Wildcats immediately answered with an 9-0 spurt to restore their 13 point bulge and were never threatened after that point.
JWU had three 20+ point scorers on the afternoon.
Nathan Meshida and
Isaiah Escobar scored 23 each, while Benson-Hollinhead finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Nantambu Calhoun scored 14 points.
The Wildcats wrap up their home stand on Monday when they host Livingstone at 6pm.
