Sweet Briar, Va - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team set a couple of program firsts in their 3-0 win over Sweet Briar on Friday morning.
The match was the first for both the volleyball team and Charlotte campus athletic department as a whole as members of NCAA Division IIII. The 10:00 AM start time also meant that the Wildcats played in the first D-III regular season game in any sport this year.
JWU started fast, leaping out to an 8-0 lead in the first set. They slowly put more distance between themselves and the Vixens, ending the set with a 25-8 win.The Wildcats got two service aces from
Jasmine Sullivan-Thompson to go along with two kills from
Jordan Mann in the middle of the second set that allowed them to pull away from Sweet Briar, eventually winning 25-17. JWU used a 15-0 run in the final set to take a commanding lead before finalizing a 25-8 third set decision.
JWU improves to 1-0 on the season. They return home to host Pfeiffer on Wednesday, 9/3 at 6:00pm.
