Swannanoa, N.C. - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team defeated Warren Wilson 3-1 on Thursday night.
The Wildcats got off to a slow start, falling behind 8-2 in the first set. JWU would close the gap to just two points at 18-16, but Warren Wilson reeled off the final seven points of the set to get the win. JWU got its nose in front midway through the second set, building as much as a five point lead en route to a 25-20 win. The Wildcats duplicated that final score in the third stanza. After a
Marion Bataoel kill gave JWU a 20-10 lead in the fourth, they seemed poised to cruise to an easy win, but the Owls mounted a furious charge, going on a 13-4 run that got them to within one point at 24-23.
Taylor Green blocked an attack by Warren Wilson's Alania Castenegra to provide the clinching point in the match.
Green led the Wildcats with 10 kills, while
Jordan Mann and Bataoel added 8 each.
Chanel Garcia posted 17 digs, and Bataoel finished with 15 of her own.
Madison Leslie and
Hailie Gordy each handed out 15 assists.
The Wildcats return home on Monday, September 29th when they host Clinton College at 6pm.
