Clermont, Fla. - Johnson & Wales Charlotte defeated Neumann in a doubleheader at The Spring Games on Saturday. Game scores were 5-4 and 4-3.
In game 1, Neumann struck for two runs in the top of the third, only to see JWU halve that lead as they pushed a run across in the bottom of the fourth on
Jaden Hamilton's run scoring single. Neumann scored twice more in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead before JWU pulled one back with a run in the bottom half of the frame. That set the stage for a dramatic bottom of the seventh inning.
Laila Strawn led off the inning with a single, and then scored on Addison's Laney's one out triple.
Seven Hope then completed the JWU walk off win with a two run homerun.
Game 2 saw JWU lead 3-1 after five innings. Kayden Hassell drove in each of those three runs with a third inning double and a fifth inning single. Neumann rallied to tie the score in the sixth, scoring twice on a Marianna Costello base hit. The seventh inning came and went with no further scoring, forcing extra innings. The Knights had a runner on thiid and no outs, but
Enijah Gary got two strikeouts and a fly out to prevent Neumann from scoring. In the bottom of the frame, Hassell doubled to left center scoring Strawn from second for the second walk off win of the day for the Wildcats.
JWU is back in action today as they take on Bluffton at 9:00am and then Clark at 11:30am.
