William Peace edges Softball In A Doubleheader

Charlotte, N.C. - Visiting William Peace defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte in a softball doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Pacers won by scores of 6-4 and 10-3.

Game one saw WIlliam Peace jump ahead 2-0 off two solo home runs from Isabelle Olson. The Pacers added two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-1. JWU came to life in the seventh, as Katie Murphy led off the inning with a single. She scored three batters later on Seven Hope's RBI single. Hope and Kaydence Hassell scored after Mai Tellez-Martinez singled to center field four pitches later. The Wildcats then used back-to-back walks to Addison Laney and Elizabeth Salazar to load the bases, but could score no further runs.

Murphy, Hassell, and Laila Strawn each had two hits in the game. Murphy also pitched a complete game, allowing 6 earned runs, walking one, and striking out one.

JWU struck first in game two, as Strawn scored on a Hassell ground out in the bottom of the first. Peace took the lead in the third, as Alli Bordwine doubled in two runs. JWU tied the game oin the fourth, and each team added a run in the sixth. The Pacers pushed seven runs across in the top of the seventh to pull away for the 10-3 win.

Hassell had two more hits in game two. Mai Tellez-Martinez pitched 4.2 innings, allowing no earned runs, walking two and striking out none.

The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, March 21st when they host Salem College for a doubleheader beginning at 10am.
