Regent Takes Weekend Series From Baseball

Virginia Beach, Va. - Regent University swept a three game series from Johnson & Wales Charlotte in baseball on Friday and Saturday. The Royals won by scores of 13-1, 14-4, and 9-1.

Friday's game saw the Royals score seven runs over the first two innings to build a big lead. Regent's Will Maloney held the Wildcats to just five hits over five innings to pick up the win. Sami Nezaj went 1-3 with a double, driving in the lone JWU run. Hunter Conn-Beck pitched three innings, allowing 9 hits and 12 earned runs.

JWU scored twice in the opening frame of Saturday's first game to take a quick lead. Nezaj again doubled to drive in a run, and then scored himself on Marco Fernandez's single. Regent tallied five runs in the first and added three more in the second to again mount a sizable lead. Jayden Nezaj reached base in all four plate appearances, collecting two hits to go along with two walks. Jacob Williams also had a multi-hit game for the Wildcats. Jabari Douglas was the most effective pitcher for JWU in the game, pitching two innings while allowing 2 hits, walking one, and striking out three.

Saturday's second game developed similarly to the first. Logan Howland gave JWU an early lead when his double plated Marco Fernandez in the top of the second. Regent responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame, then added six additional runs the rest of the way, while holding the Wildcats scoreless. Sami Nezaj and Logan Howland each had two hits. Starting pitcher McKinley Myles pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 9 runs. He struck out two and walked two.

The Wildcats close their weekend trip on Sunday as they visit Virginia Wesleyan for a 12:00pm game.
