Clermont, Fla. - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte softball team fell to Capital 10-8 and Saint Vincent 8-2 at The Spring Games on Wednesday.
In the day's first contest, Capital jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. The Wildcats slowly clawed their way back into the game the rest of the way, scoring two in the third and one each in the fifth and sixth. They then plated four runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by
Katie Murphy's two RBI double. They got the tying run to the plate, but were unable to score any additional runs.Â
Mai Tellez-Martinez pitched 5.1 innings in relief for JWU, allowing just three runs while walking one. Murphy and
Laila Strawn each had three hits for JWU, part of 14 for the team. Murphy drove in three runs.
Wednesday's second game was tied at one after three innings. Saint Vincent then scored 7 runs over the final four innings to pull away for the 8-2 win. Murphy pitched 4 innings, allowing two runs, while strking out one and walking one. Strawn had the only multi-hit game for JWU.
The Wildcats return home to host Salem on Saturday, March 7th at 12pm for a doubleheader.
