Oberlin Takes Two From Softball

Charlotte, N.C. - Oberlin College defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Yeowomen won by scores of 8-5 and 6-2.

Saturday's first game saw the Wildcats jump out to a 4-1 lead after one inning. Mai Tellez-Martinez doubled in two runs to open the scoring for JWU, while Addison Laney drove home Tellez-Martinez and Addison Laney with a single. Oberlin answered with 4 runs in the top of the second inning to re-take the lead. JWU trimmed that lead to one run in the fifth when Elizabeth Salazar's double plated Seven Hope. That's as close as the Wildcats would get, however, as the Yeowomen added two runs in the top of the seventh for the 8-5 final.

Hope and Tellez-Martinez each went 3-4 with a double at the plate for JWU. Tellez-Martinez pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 8 runs, walking none, and striking out three.

The second game saw Oberlin break open a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth by scoring three runs. JWU got one in the bottom of the frame, but Oberlin again scored thrice in the top of the fifth. JWU was held to just five singles. Enijah Gary went the distance in the pitching circle, giving up just three earned runs while walking one.

JWU makes the short trip to Johnson C. Smith on Wednesday, March 10th for a doubleheader that begins at 12:00pm.
