Fayetteville, N.C. - Methodist University defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte in a softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs won by scores of 6-1 and 11-2 in five innings.
The Wildcats took the lead with a run in the top of the second when
Addison Laney scored on
Elizabeth Salazar's fielder's choice. Methodist answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, and added another run in the third. The Monarchs then added three in the fifth for the final margin.
Laney,
Kaydence Hassell,
Mai Tellez-Martinez, and
Jaden Hamilton each had a hit for the Wildcats. Tellez-Martinez pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs. She walked one and struck out two.
Methodist scored in each of their four at-bats in game two, building a six run lead before the Wildcats answered with two runs in the top of the third. Tellez-Martinez drove in those runs with a single.Â
Laila Strawn had a hit and scored a run.
Enijah Gary pitched two innings in relief, allowing five hits and no earned runs.
The Wildcats next travel to Pippa Passes, Ky. to take on Alice Lloyd on Friday, April 17th. Games begin at 1:00pm.
