Box Score Charlotte, NC – Johnson & Wales (2-10) hosted the Lions of Piedmont College this evening in the Wildcats' second home game of the season. The Wildcats set several school records in route to a 95-85 win, breaking their 7 game losing streak.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 7-2 lead behind a 3 pointer from Jay Keller and layups from Taylor Thomas and Robbie Sterling. The Lions responded with a 12-4 run of their own, taking the lead 14-11. Piedmont would extend their lead to nine at 34-25. JWU would fight back to tie the score at 40 at halftime, as Kareem Wilson hit a long jumper at the buzzer.
JWU would score nine of the first 11 points of the second half as they hit five of their first six shots in the period. This spurt gave them a lead that they would never relinquish. The Lions would cut the lead to four at the 14:51 mark on a layup by Jessie Jenkins. The Wildcats immediately responded with a 12-2 run over the next three minutes that would give them their largest lead of the game at 65-51. Piedmont would cut the lead to as few as 8 on three different occasions, but could get no closer. JWU would hit 10 of their 15 free throw attempts down the stretch to close out the 95-85 win.
The Wildcats placed 5 players in double figures led by Joshua Cohen's 22 and Jay Keller's 21. Kindrick Anderson added 14, Taylor Thomas had 13, and Robbie Sterling had 12 points in the win. Nick Crawford led the Wildcats on the boards with 8 rebounds, while Keller added 6 more. Johnson & Wales set four school records this evening: Points in a game (95), points in a half (55), Shooting% in a half (66.7%), and Shooting % in a game (55.7%). The Wildcats hit the road for two games this weekend as they face Bob Jones University on Sat., 12/1 and High Point on Sunday, 12/2. Both games tip at 3pm.
