Women's Soccer Suffers 3-1 Setback to CIU in Season Finale

Box Score

Pineville, NC - A first half goal by sophomore striker Christin Abdullah wasn't enough as the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team lost 3-1 to Columbia International University at a rainsoaked OrthoCarolina SportsPlex on Tuesday.

Abdullah scored for a second consecutive match for the Wildcats (3-9), running on to a long punt from Kylie Priddy in the 28th minute and chipping CIU goalkeeper Angel Simpson from 25 yards out for a 1-0 lead.

It was the only chance of the half for Johnson & Wales, who were outshot 11-1 in the period.

CIU would equalize in the 39th minute, with Kayla Swails breaking through a packed defense to finish a pass from Angela McMaster.

The visitors would take the lead in the 49th minute on an unassisted goal from Alanna Battermann and add the insurance goal in the 87th minute, with McMaster finishing a corner kick from Swails.

Priddy made 10 saves on the night for the Wildcats. The match marked the final appearance for senior Ashley Palmisano.
