JWU Drops Season Opener to USC-Lancaster

Box Score

Lancaster, SC – Freshman midfielder Danielle Doyle scored the first goal in program history, but it wasn't enough as the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision at USC-Lancaster.

It was the inaugural match for the Wildcats (0-1), who join men's soccer as one of two new programs on the Charlotte campus for 2015.

USC-Lancaster opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, but the Wildcats answered just four minutes later when Doyle received a pass from Alicia Nemon and chipped the goalkeeper for the equalizer.

The hosts would tack on goals in the 32nd, 38th, 55th, and 78th minutes to pull away.

Johnson & Wales was paced by goalkeeper Megan Horsfall's nine saves on the day.

“I'm incredibly proud of the girls,” said Wildcats head coach Matt Hisler.  “They worked very hard for each other today.  Unfortunately, our inexperience showed today.  They showed great resiliency in the second half and I'm looking forward to our next time out.”
