Box Score Pineville, NC - Second half goals from Danielle Doyle and Taylor Helms lifted USCAA #15 Johnson & Wales University to a 2-0 victory over #21 Warren Wilson College on Thursday.
Doyle opened the scoring in the 66th minute for the Wildcats (8-8) after drawing a foul and yellow card on Owls center back Ashleigh Richter just outside the corner of the 18 yard box.
Her ensuing free kick beat goalkeeper Madison Pacheco to the back post, skimming off the crossbar and in for the 1-0 advantage.
Helms would add the insurance goal in the 85th minute, firing home a loose ball from 14 yards out after Jaeden Smith's initial effort was blocked.
The Wildcats backline of Ashley Allen, Ashley Lunceford, Eva Purdy, and Latearia Perkins limited Warren Wilson to just two shots on the night. The Owls saw their best chance come midway through the second half, as midfielder Maddie Harris sent her 25 yard drive straight into the hands of Wildcat goalkeeper Kylie Priddy.
Priddy finished with two saves on the evening.
The Wildcats held a 12-2 advantage in shots in the match, including a 9-1 advantage in the second half.
Johnson & Wales will play their final match of the regular season on Saturday as they host Randolph College. Kickoff is 12:00 p.m. at the OrthoCarolina SportsPlex in Pineville.
