Box Score Front Royal, VA - The USCAA #20 Johnson & Wales women's soccer team claimed their first program win over a ranked opponent, knocking off #17 Christendom College 2-1 in a rain-soaked match on Saturday.
Lana Truese and Danielle Doyle each had first half goals for the Lady Wildcats (6-7), with Truese scoring in 23rd minute and Doyle tallying the eventual match winner in the 31st minute.
Truese opened the scoring after working a combination with fellow freshman Taylor Helms. Her effort from the top of the box beat Christendom goalkeeper Madeline Hill for the 1-0 lead.
Christendom responded just minutes later, as Gemma Youngman's corner kick skipped off the post, deflected off Johnson & Wales goalkeeper Kylie Priddy, and found the back of the net for the 27th minute equalizer.
Doyle restored the advantage with a 22-yard effort after the Christendom defense failed to deal with Abigail Durisseau's diagonal ball. Doyle latched on to the loose ball and fired home for her 12th goal of the season.
The Lady Wildcats will resume play on Sunday, Oct. 16, when they travel to Washington, D.C., to play Trinity. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
