Box Score Bluefield, WV - The Johnson & Wales women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 setback on the road at the hands of NAIA opponent Bluefield College on Saturday.
The Lady Wildcats (1-1) were coming off a convincing 7-2 victory at USC-Salkehatchie earlier in the week, but were unable to find the same succes in the attack against the Rams (1-0).
Just eight minutes into the match, officials halted play for an hour due to lightning. Once play resumed, Bluefield wasted little time jumping into the lead with goals from Megan Norton in the 14th minute and Whitney Browning in the 18th minute.
Taylor Bryant and Jacquelyn Chick would spot the hosts a 4-0 advantage by halftime, and Karlene Tuininga would make it 5-0 in the 58th minute after finishing a cross by Emma Donohoe.
Johnson & Wales goalkeeper Kylie Priddy came up with 10 saves while teammate Taylor Helms accounted for both shots on goal for the visitors.
The Lady Wildcats will resume play on Friday when they travel to Cranston, RI, for the JWU Cup. They will open play at 11:00 a.m. against the hosts, JWU-Providence.
