Box Score Pineville, NC - The Johnson & Wales women's soccer team scored three times in the second half to put away visiting NCAA Division 3 side Hollins University 4-1 at the OrthoCarolina SportsPlex on Tuesday.
Danielle Doyle was involved in all four goals for the Lady Wildcats (4-6), finishing with two goals and two assists on the evening.
Johnson & Wales enjoyed the lion's share of possession and chances throughout the match, but struggled in the opening 45 minutes to solve a defensively compact Hollins side. The Lady Wildcats outshot Hollins 10-1 in the first half, but the two sides were level at the break.
Doyle gave the Lady Wildcats the lead in the 22nd minute, running onto a through ball from midfielder Jaedan Smith and slotting it past Hollins goalkeeper Hannah Armstrong.
Just four minutes later, Hollins would equalize against the run of play, with Alexis McDonough finishing her team's first - and only - chance of the match on a through ball from Darien Cook.
In the 36th minute, Doyle broke through again, only to be hauled down by Hollins defender Allie Tambornini. Doyle's ensuing penalty, and a rebound effort by Lana Truese, were both well saved by Armstrong to keep the score 1-1.
Johnson & Wales would take the lead for good in the 63rd minute, with Doyle finding space on the right wing and slotting her low cross to Taylor Helms for a point-blank finish.
Doyle played provider again in the 78th minute, as her early cross was finished with a thumping header from Truese to give the Lady Wildcast some breathing room.
The two would switch roles just three minutes from time, as Truese broke through and set up Doyle for a point-blank finish to make it 4-1.
The Lady Wildcats outshot Hollins 23-1 on the night.
Johnson & Wales will resume play on Saturday when they travel to Axton, VA, to play Patrick Henry Community College. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
