Virginia Beach, VA - Johnson & Wales, the top seed in the USCAA Division II Men's Soccer National Championships, faced off against 3rd seeded Penn State Brandywine in the championship match on Monday afternoon. A driving fell during the entirety of a defensive struggle that Penn State Brandywine won with a goal halfway through the first overtime period.

The Wildcats missed a golden scoring opportunity in the game's second minute, as Chance Wiginton's rocket of a volley was deflected off the crossbar by Brandywine goalie Brandon Welden. JWU continued to pressure the Roaring Lion defense, unleashing 8 shots in the first half, while maintaining an overwhelming advantage in possession. Six of those shots were on frame, but Welden was equal to the task each time. 

The second half played out much like the first, with the Wildcats maintaining possession, and outshooting Brandywine (18-2-2) nine to nothing during the period. JWU was denied a couple of point blank opportunities in front of the Roaring Lion net by Welden and his defensive mates. 

Brandywine found the game winner when Daniel Willie fought off two Wildcat defenders at the top of the Johnson & Wales penalty, and quickly slotted a shot into the top corner of the near post for the championship clinching golden goal.

Five Wildcat players were named to the All-Tournament Team: Seniors JT Fucci, Mo Baskaron, and Sam Fanning, sophomore Weeb Isaac, and freshman Brandon Greene. 

The Wildcats finish the season at 13-2. The first graduating four-year senior class of men's soccer players finish their careers with a record of 44-10-2.
