Women's Soccer Opens Season With Dominant Performance

Box Score

Albany, NY - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte Women's Soccer team kicked-off their fifth season with a road contest versus Bryant & Stratton - Albany. Despite the long journey, the Wildcats came out firing, taking down the hosts 10-0.

Eboni Montague started the scoring early with an unassisted goal in the fourth minute. It was the first collegiate goal for Montague. Lana Truese would notch the second goal of the contest 19 minutes later on the Brooklyn Cathey assist. In the 34th minute, Jaedan Smith would score her first of the season, followed shortly by her second in the 37th minute on a Truese assist. Sophomore Aubrey Anderson would add to the tally at the 40 minute mark on another Cathey assist. Truese would cap the first half scoring three minutes later to make it 6-0 at the break.

The second half was more of the same, as Montague again opened the half with a goal, this time needing just one minute of play to finish the Smith pass. Smith would complete her hat trick at the 53 minute mark for her first career hat trick, as the senior finished the Jacqueline Gomez assist. Cathey, already with two assists, got on the scoreboard with a goal of her own in the 63rd minute, her first collegiate goal. Truese would then claim her hat trick with the final goal in the 67th minute, this time assisted by Lauren Marting. This was the first hat trick in the decorated career for the senior from Herndon, VA.

Jah'Asia Pernell recorded three saves and she combined with Sarah Toler for the shutout behind a stout defense. The 10-0 scoreline set a new program record for most goals and largest margin of victory. The Wildcats finished with 31 shots, with 17 of those on goal.

"Excited for the team. They have had a tough preseason, and I am happy that they earned a little reward," commented Wildcats Head Coach Matt Hisler. "Long way to go, excited to see how they rise to the next challenge."

The Wildcats return the field on August 31st with a 2:00 pm kick-off at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
