Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales women's soccer team got back to the .500 mark for the season with a 3-1 triumph over Washington Adventist on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Lauren Burch latched onto a precise through ball from Katie Douglas and then beat Shock goalkeeper Isabella Fuentes low and away from ten yards out. Daryl Monticello doubled the JWU (5-5-2) advantage five minutes later when Jackie Gomez collected a poor clearance, slotted the ball to Monticello, who then played give and go with Burch before firing a rocket into the top corner from just outside ten yards.
Adventist (1-4) pulled one back less than a minute later after Maria Cardona was fouled in the box and Madeline Nunez converted the resulting penalty kick.
Katie Douglas provided the final goal of the afternoon ten minutes into the second period when she collected a rebound and fired the ball that Fuentes deflected before Douglas tapped the ball across the goal line for her fourth goal of the season.
Leah Bragaw went the distance in net, turning away each of the four shots she faced in the run of play to move to 4-3-2 on the season. JWU held a 24-6 advantage over WAU (1-4) in shots, with the Wildcats putting a dozen of those on frame.
JWU honored seven seniors and early graduates in a pregame ceremony: Jacqueline Gomez, Ebonee Montague, Sarah Toler, Lauren Marting, Delaney Benito, Emily Richard, and Aubrey Anderson.
The Wildcats are next in action on Wednesday, October 20th, as they travel to Brevard for a 7pm kickoff.
