Box Score Brevard, NC - The Johnson & Wales men's soccer team wrapped up the road portion of their 2021 schedule with a game at Brevard on Wednesday evening. The host Tornados scored twice in the first half en route to a 3-1 win.
Brevard scored early in the first period when a Tornado shot was deflected past Wildcat keeper Tanner Newport. Vitor Braga doubled the Brevard (8-3-3) advantage in the 28th minute when he found himself in the right place at the right time to put away a shot that Newport had initially saved.
Billy Esparza-Diaz pulled a goal back in spectacular fashion fifteen minutes into the second half. He volleyed a free kick clearance part Tornado keeper Jack Pruehs from 25 yards away. That would serve as the highlight of the evening for the Wildcats (4-10) as Brevard added a goal in the last five minutes for the 3-1 win.
The Tornados outshot JWU 18-11 in the game, with the Wildcats putting 6 shots on frame. Esparza-Diaz had three shots, while Josiah Davis tallied two. Newport made 6 saves in the match.
The Wildcats return home on Wednesday, October 27th for senior night when they take on Warren Wilson at 8pm.
