Box Score Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte honored three graduating seniors prior to the start of their Spring Game against Patrick Henry Community College on Wednesday night. The trio of Gavin Brundidge, Weeb Isaac, and Connor Savageau were able to compete as Wildcats on one final occasion. They have been a big part of 42 wins during their careers, and twice played in the USCAA National Championship Game.
The two teams played a scoreless first half that was not void of action. The two goalkeepers, PHCC's Arthur Borges and JWU's Michael Vasquez combined to make six saves in the period that saw the ball go back and forth in each final third for the duration of the forty five minutes. Three minutes after halftime, the Patriots' Caleb Brouwer latched on to a long pass and slotted it past JWU's James Howell to open the scoring. The Wildcats responded just six minutes later when Micah Smith collected a deflection and blasted home a shot from 25 yards out. The teams continued to pepper the ball at both Howell and Borges, tallying 13 shots in the half, but none found their way into the net until the 84th minute when Brouwer scored the eventual game winner for PHCC (4-0-1). Johnson & Wales (0-1-0) just missed an equalizer in the game's final minute when Borges got a hand on Ross Garrison's header to keep it out of the far corner of the goal.
