New Kensington, PA - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's soccer team won a trio of games against USCAA opponents this weekend.
The 2nd ranked Wildcats faced off with #15 Christendom on Friday afternoon in Front Royal, VA. The Wildcats scored three times in the first twenty-three minutes en route to a 9-0 win over the Crusaders. Nine different players scored for JWU as the Wildcats outshot Christendom 38-7.
Tanner Newport posted his second shutout of the season, making 2 saves.
Saturday saw JWU travel to Beaver, PA to take on Penn State-Beaver. The Wildcats again got off to a fast start, scoring four times in the first fifteen minutes of the match. They didn't look back from that point, going on to win 11-0 in a match that was shortened to seventy minutes.
Andrew Fanelli and
Tyler Morgan each found the net twice on the afternoon. Newport and
Colin Starr combined to keep a clean sheet, with Starr saving the only Lion shot of the afternoon.
Sunday's finale saw the Wildcats make the short trip to New Kensington, PA to play #14 Penn State-New Kensington.
Christopher Haynes put JWU up 1-0 in the 19th minute as he fired a shot low and right past Lion keeper Kenton Knox. New Kensington answered just over three minutes later when Ethan Hutcherson scored just the second goal the Wildcats have allowed this season. The game settled in from that point, as neither team could do much offensively for the next three quarters of an hour.
Alex Tsoukalas headed home a corner kick to give JWU a lead they would not relinquish at the 66:52 mark.
Peter Agelis added an insurance tally with 8 minutes to play that provided the final 3-1 margin.
The Wildcats take to the road again on October 4th as they travel to Warren Wilson for a 4:00pm kickoff.
