Corapolis, PA - Top seeded Johnson & Wales downed 5th seeded Five Towns College 3-1 on the first day of pool play at the USCAA National Championships.
The Wildcats controlled the action throughout the first half as they possessed the ball for well over half of the period, and outshot the Sound 10-4. JWU was hampered by five offside calls, two of which nullified goals.Â
Five Towns struck first nine minutes after halftime when the Sound's Angel Chavez gathered a loose ball on the wet, slippery turf and slotted it home.The Wildcats pushed hard to find an equalizer, finally doing so in the 68th minute when
Dylan Steeves finished a pinpoint feed from
Evan Retzlaff. JWU edged in front three minutes after that when
Ahmed Ghosheh fired home a deflected ball from 20 yards away.
Eugenio de la Parra Polina salted the game away with five minutes left.
Peter Agelis whipped a pass into the far post from the right wing and de la Parra Polina was there to head it home.
Colin Starr made 6 saves in net.
The Wildcats will take on 4th seeded Central Maine Community College on Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm.Â
