Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball improved to 7-2 with a 70-49 win over Guilford Tech on Monday night.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 21-5 lead after the first quarter. JWU made 8 of 14 shots, and 4 of 8 three point attempts, while holding Guilford Tech to just 2 of 13 shooting. JWU held serve in the second period, and went into halftime leading 36-18.
Guilford Tech used a 16-5 run out of the locker room to climb back into the game, as JWU saw their lead whittled to just 41-34 with 4:340 to play in the third period.
Jamyah Blakeney answered with a three pointer on the next Wildcat possession to restore a double-digit advantage, and Mckenzie Taylor's halfcourt three to beat the buzzer saw JWU lead 51-38 with ten minutes remaining. The Wildcats owned the glass in the final stanza, outrebounding the Titans 12-5. That enabled them to get six more shot attempts, which they used to pull away to win by 21.
Four Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Blakeney's 16 points. Taylor added 14, while
Jordan Durant and
Samara Mims scored 10 each. The Wildcats tied their season-high with 9 three pointers, and converted a season-high 9 of 11 free throw attempts.
JWU next travels to Raleigh, NC to take on William Peace on Friday, December 15th at 3:00pm.
