Denmark, SC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball team moved to 7-1 on the season with a 64-49 win over Voorhees on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats led 17-13 after one quarter thanks to 6 of 13 shooting and three made three pointers.
Jamyah Blakeney scored seven points in the period to pace JWU. Voohees opened the second ten minutes on a 8-0 run to take a four point lead at 21-17, but the Wildcats outscored the Tigers 9-3 the rest of the period to head to the locker room leading 26-24.
The third quarter proved pivotal, as the Wildcats used hot shooting and good defense to outscore Voorhees 21-9. JWU made half of their 16 shot attempts, 3 of which were three pointers. In turn, they held the Tigers to just 3 of 14 from the field in building as much as a 17 point advantage.Â
A jumper by
Aimee Evans extended the lead to 22 two minutes into the final period, and the Wildcats cruised from there to a 64-49 victory.
JWU had a balanced scoring afternoon, as
McKenzie Taylor and
Jamyah Blakeney each had 14,
Jordan Durant added 13, and
Samara Mims had 9 points to go along with 8 rebounds.
The Wildcats return home on Tuesday, December 5th, when they host Salem at 6pm.
