Bishops' Late Goal Edges Women's Soccer

Pineville, NC - NC Wesleyan defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte 2-1 in women's soccer on Wednesday night.

The Wildcats struck first when Emily Spies took a pass in the Battling Bishop penalty area and fired it low and left beyond goalkeeper Anna Yeakey in the game's thirteenth minute. The tally was the first goal in a Wildcat uniform for Spies. NC Wesleyan knotted hte score a little over three minutes later when Samantha Dell hit the roof of the net from twenty yards out.

The game settled down from that point as neither team could break through the opposing defense. The Bishops got a goal from Caitlyn Butler on a scramble in front of the Wildcat net that proved to be the game winner.

NC Wesleyan outshot JWU 9-7, while the Wildcats enjoyed a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks. Zoe Balmer made 4 saves in net.

Johnson & Wales is next in action on Saturday, September 16th when they travel to Hollins for a 12pm kickoff.
