Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team defeated visiting Warren Wilson 3-0 on Thursday night.
The Owls jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set behind the strong play of Kaitlyn Helinsky. She had 6 kills in the first set, and 15 overall for the match. The Wildcats slowly trimmed the Warren Wilson lead and took control late in the first set en route to a 25-18 win. JWU carried that momentum into set 2, as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back, winning 25-16.
Kenner Pedigo and
Aimee Evans each had two kills in the period. The Wildcats again built a comfortable lead in the third set, only to see Warren Wilson close to within two points at 23-21 late in the set. JWU scored the final two points to take the match 3-0.
Evans led the Wildcats with 6 kills, while Pedigo and Atkins added 4 kills each.
Sage Franzel and
Paloma Camus combined for 19 digs. Camus and
Logan Smith teamed to post 14 assists and 6 service aces.
JWU is next in action on Saturday, September 16th as they travel to Ferrum, VA for a tri-match with the host Ferrum Panthers and Virginia Union University. First match is at 11:00am.
