Jacksonville, FL - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's soccer team defeated Trinity Baptist College 3-2 on Saturday afternoon to earn their first victory of the 2023 campaign.
The hosts jumped in front in the 15th minute when Hana Lohmann scored from 15 yards out. JWU equalized just over twenty minutes later when
Katie Douglas took a pass from
Jessica Ralph and beat Eagle goalkeeper Alyssa Lechuga. The tie didn't last long, as Trinity Baptist (1-2-1) scored just before half when Laine Ford's free kick deflected off the hands of an outstretched
Zoe Balmer and bounded over the goal line.
JWU turned up the pressure in the second half, putting three shots on frame in the period's first twenty five minutes, but Lechuga was up to the task, stopping all 3. Finally in the 71st minute, freshman
Azalianna Absalom got a feed from Douglas and slotted it past Lechuga for her first collegiate tally. Absalom would strike again two minutes later for the eventual game winner, this time set up by
Taylor Witherspoon.
Balmer made 7 saves in picking up her first career win in net. Absalom led the Wildcats with 5 shots, 3 of which were on goal. Douglas and
Mia Townson added 3 shots each.
The Wildcats (1-1) continue their Jacksonville road trip on Sunday when the face off against Edward Waters University at 1pm.
