Newport News, VA - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball team picked up their 7th straight win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Massasoit Community College 98-40 in the finale of the Apprentice MLK Classic.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead and led 29-8 at the end of the first quarter.
McKenzie Taylor scored 16 of her game high 21 points to help JWU to a 54-34 halftime advantage.Â
JWU's defense did the job in the final twenty minutes, holding Massasoit CC to just 16 points and 6-30 shooting from the field.
Taylor added 8 steals and 7 assists to her 21 points.
Samara Britt had a career high 15 points to go along with 9 rebounds.
Jayla Lovett and
Samara Mims had 14 each, while
Jamyah Blakeney and
Jordan Durant combined for 16 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals, and 5 assists.Â
The Wildcats are next in action on Wednesday, January 17th when they travel to Converse for a 5:00pm tipoff.
