Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte cross country teams participated in the Royals XC Invite on Friday afternoon, one of the largest cross country meets in the Southeast.
Sophia Varela led the way for the Wildcat women, running a 21:25.80 across the 5k course, finishing 61st.
Jalynn Wright (28:48.22/149th) and
Aitana Matuty (29:16.03/151st) were the other finishing runners for JWU.
The men's team ran in the 'Blue' 8k race, featuring other Division II, Division III, and NJCAA teams from across the southeast.
Stevenson Barnes crossed the finish line in 26:58:00 to finish 19th.
Dillon Neeley was the next WIldcat finisher, placing 36th with a time of 27:25.40. He was followed by
Liam Robinson, who finished 39th in 27:28.10.
Logan Shaffer (27:56.30/53rd) and
Colby Belk (33:23.90/157th) were the other scoring runners for JWU. Their team score of 243 earned them 7th place of the 21 competing teams.Â
The cross country teams are next in action on Saturday, October 19th when they travel to USC-Upstate for the USC-Upstate Invite at the Roger Miliken Center.
