Charlotte, NC - Visiting Erskine College defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte 84-77 in men's basketball on Wednesday night.
The Flying Fleet jumped out to a 46-28 halftime lead as they shot 56.3% in the first half and made 6 three point shots. JWU struggled from the field, connecting on just a third of their 30 field goal attempts. The Wildcats were also just 1 of 15 from three point range in the first twenty minutes.
JWU started the second half strong, opening the period on a 13-3 run over the first four and a half minutes that got them to within eight at 49-41. The Wildcats continued to eat away at the Fleet lead, and with eleven minutes to play, Erskine's advantage was just one point, 53-52. JWU shot 57% (8-14) during the first nine minutes of the half to get themselves back in it.Â
Erskine rebuilt their lead to as many as twelve over the final eleven minutes. JWU cut the margin to four on three occasions, but could get no closer.
Nathan Meshida led the Wildcats with 14 points, while
Nantambu Calhoun added 13 points.
Jordan Appling and
Malcolm Warthen scored 12 points each.
The Wildcats next travel to Raleigh, NC to take on Shaw University on Saturday, November 23rd at 2:00pm.
