Raleigh, NC - Host Shaw University defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte 81-75 on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats fell behind by as many as a dozen in the first half, but a
Isaiah Escobar three pointer just before the halftime horn trimmed the deficit to just five. It was one of 5 three pointers JWU connected on in the first twenty minutes.
Nantambu Calhoun made another three to open the second half as the game tightened even further. He then put the Wildcats ahead 57-56 at the 11:17 mark with another long distance shot. The game remained close until Shaw used a 9-0 run to forge a 73-61 advantage with just under five minutes remaining. JWU could get no closer than a half dozen points the rest of the way.
Calhoun led the Wildcats with a career-high 21 points.
Nathan Meshida had 20 points, while
Ethan Smith added 13.
JWU next travels to Randolph College on November 30th for a 4:00pm game.
