Men's Basketball Rally Comes Up Short

Due West, SC - Erskine held off a late Johnson & Wales Charlotte rally to win 60-58 on Monday night.

How it happened:
  • The game was tight early as neither team led by more then 4 points until Erskine's Darin Parker hit a jumper that put the Fleet up 15-9 halfway through the first period.
  • The Wildcats trimmed the lead to two on three occasions, only to see the Fleet go back ahead by seven points with just over a minute remaining in the half.
  • Two Jaylen Benson-Hollinhead layups in the final minute trimmed the JWU deficit to three, 29-26 at the break.
  • Erskine used an 8-0 run to begin the second half, and took a 37-26 lead with fifteen minutes to play.
  • The Fleet lead would grow to as many as fifteen points, and was still in double figures with four minutes remaining.
  • The Wildcats scored on four of their next five possessions to trim their deficit to a single point at 59-58.
  • JWU was not able to convert on their final possession, falling 60-58.
Key Stats:
  • Bob Jones improves to 4-16, while JWU falls to 8-11.
  • The Fleet shot 46.3% from the field compared to just 40.0% for the Wildcats. 
  • JWU enjoyed a 33-30 advantage on the boards.
  • Isiah Escobar came off the bench to lead the Wildcats with 14 points, He made 4 of his 5 three point attempts.
  • Cameron Lawson added 13 points.
