Charleston, SC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte cross country teams kicked off their 2024 season in Charleston, SC at the Charleston Southern Buccaneer Invitational.
The women ran first, across the 5k course on CSU's campus. Freshman
Sofia Varela posted the best time among the Wildcats, running a 23:35.8.
Cassie Bayes was next with a 27:13.8. Fellow newcomers
Jalynn Wright (33:18.0), and
Emoni Williams (33:26.9) competed in their first collegiate event, while
Nataly McCrary was the final scoring runner, posting a time of 34:36.7. The team finished 7th of 7 competing teams, which largely consisted of NCAA Division I schools.
The men ran a 6k race, and the Wildcats finished 6th of 9 teams.
Stevenson Barnes led JWU, finishing 35th overall in a time of 21:25.4. Freshman
Liam Robinson came home 43rd in 21:40.2. The other counting times for the Wildcats were
Logan Shaffer (22:01.3/50th),
Dillon Neeley (22:24.8/52nd), and
Dylan Michaud (25:40.9/68th).Â
The Wildcats are next in action on Saturday, September 14th when they travel to Pfeiffer to take part in the Pfeiffer Invitational.Â
