Monaca, PA - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team picked up their first two wins of the season at the USCAA Tip Off Tournament on Friday.
The Wildcats dropped the first set to Penn State DuBois in the day's first match before winning the next three with relative ease, 23-25, 25-10, 25-17, 25-17. JWU hit .231 for the match, and were led by
Gabrielle Bazile's 10 kills, while
Ahmarie Young had 9, and
Kalin Lincoln added 8 more.
Loshi Ward handed out 20 assists and served six aces. Young also tallied 14 digs.
The second match was a five set thriller with Penn State-Fayette. The teams split the first four sets, and went to teh switch of sides in the fifth with JWU holding a slim 8-7 advantage. The Wildcats took control from that juncture, reeling off seven consecutive points before finally closing out the final stanza 15-10.
Young tallied 11 kills, 23 digs. and 4 service aces in the match. Lincoln added 10 kills, while Ayanna Portillo chipped in with 11 digs. Ward again had 20 assists with Rebecca Van Arsdale dished out 12 of her own.
The Wildcats will play again today against a time and opponent to be determined later.
