Women's Basketball Tames Lions

Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball won it's fifth straight game with an 81-69 win over Paine College on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats opened the game on a 13-1 run, making their first six field goal attempts, and led by seven after ten minutes. JWU went cold in the second quarter, making just three of seventeen shots. Paine outscored the Wildcats 19-9 to take a three point lead, 36-33 at the break.

Samara Britt scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the third quarter to help push the Wildcats ahead as they built a five point lead, 56-51. JUW then used a 21-9 run over the first seven and a half minutes of the fourth period to lead by 19 at 79-60 before going on to win by 12.

Britt led the Wildcats with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Jordan Durant and Kyrah Davis had 16 points each. Gabby Tapley scored 8 points, pulled down 4 rebounds, and handed out 4 assists. Laken Powe had 6 points and 9 rebounds, while Maliah Preston had 3 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks.

JWU next travels to Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC for a 4:00pm tipoff on Saturday, January 18th.
