Fayetteville, NC - Methodist defeated visiting Johnson & Wales Charlotte 59-56 on Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs jumped out to a 17-7 lead after the first ten minutes as JWU managed just 3 of 11 from the field.
The Wildcats could not cut into the lead until the final stanza when they used a 14-5 run to cut the Methodist lead to just one at 46-45 with 4:20 to play. The Monarchs scored six of the next ten points in the game to forge a seven point advantage with 107 seconds remaining. JWU twice cut the lead to three, as they made 12 of 14 free throws in the period, but could get no closer.
Jordan Durant scored 19 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and recorded 4 steals to lead the Wildcats.
De'Ashaj Crawford scored 9 points off the bench.
JWU returns home to host Meredith College on Monday, January 20th at 1:00pm.
