Maryville, Tenn. - Johnson & Wales Charlotte defeated Covenant College 107-98 in the final game of the Renasant Bank Classic on Saturday evening.
The Wildcats led 56-53 at the half despite trailing by as many as 10 points during the first twenty minutes. The 56 points were the most in any one half so far for JWU this season. They shot 53.5% from the field in doing so.
Covenant evened things up early in the second stanza, and the Scots still led by six with 4:52 to play, 93-87. JWU closed with a flourish from that point, ending the game with a 20-5 spurt. The Wildcats made six of their final nine field goal attempts, including three of four 3 point attempts.
JWU placed six players in double figures, led by
Cole Callaway's 23 points.
Antonio Perkins added 17 points, while
Christian Outlaw had 16 points.
Jordan Appling scored 13 points,
Josh Smith tallied 10, and
Cooper Wiley had an outstanding all-around performance, scoring 11 points, grabbing 11 boards, and handing out 5 assists.
The Wildcats next travel to Brevard on Saturday, December 13th for a 2:00pm tipoff.
