Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales men's and women's tennis teams kicked off the 2025 portion of their schedules on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Columbia (SC) College.
The Wildcat women fell to the Koalas 6-1.
Kirsten Cannon won her first collegiate match with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 win over Columbia's Joye Tate. After losing the first set 6-0,
Payton Abrams fought back to lose 7-5 in the second set against Vienne Green. The Koalas swept the three doubles matches to earn that point.
JWU's men jumped out to an early lead as they took two of the three doubles' contests to grab the match's first point.
John Billinis and
Cayden Danzer won the #1 doubles match 6-3, while
Maxwell Frederick and
Justin Wagner prevailed in the #3 match 6-1.
Frederick went 2-0 on the day as he won a three set affair in the #5 singles match, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. His win was the only one on the singles side as Columbia went on for a 5-2 victory.
The JWU women are next in action on February 19th when they welcome Livingstone to West Charlotte High School. That match begins at 1pm. The Wildcat men next play on February 18th when Johnson C. Smith makes the short trip up Beatties Ford Road for a 4pm match.
