Charlotte, NC - Fifth ranked Miami-Hamilton defeated third ranked Johnson & Wales Charlotte 66-55 on Saturday afternoon.
The teams played to a 36 all draw in the game's first twenty minutes. Miami-Hamilton shot 52% (14-27) from the field in the first half, while the Wildcats were nearly as good at 455 (15-33).
Gabby Tapley and
Jordan Durant had 8 points each in the half to lead JWU.
The third quarter proved pivotal, as the Harriers outscored the Wildcats 16-7 to build a lead they would not relinquish. JWU shot just 3 of 10 in the stanza, while Miami-Hamilton outrebounded them by 4 and forced 5 JWU turnovers during that span.
De'Ashaj Crawford led JWU with 13 points, while Tapley and Durant finished with 12 each. Tapley also grabbed 9 rebounds.Â
