Hilton Head Island, SC - Both Johnson & Wales tennis teams picked up wins on Monday afternoon at the PTR Spring Tennis Fest.
The Wildcats took on St. John Fisher University at the Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis Resort. JWU's men rolled to a 7-0 win over the Cardinals. Sam Ciccarello got the biggest challenge in the #5 singles match, winning 7-6, 6-4.
Maxwell Frederick won his 6th singles match on the season in the #4 match. He also remained undefeated with
Justin Wagner as his doubles partner as they moved to 5-0.
The Wildcat women won their first match of the season in dramatic fashion. St. John Fisher swept the doubles matches to earn that point, and then won two of the first three singles matches to finish to build a 3-1 lead. JWU got wins in the #4 singles match from
Kirsten Cannon, and the #6 singles match from
Iyana Barber to even the score at 3.
Payton Abrams won the first set in a tiebreak, but fell behind 5-0 in the second set. She then reeled off 7 consecutive games to win the set 7-5, and the #5 singles match 2-0. That point gave the Wildcats the 4-3 victory.
The teams are in action today at 8:30am as they take on the University of Dubuque.
