Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales Charlotte head women's basketball coach Jill Dunn has announced her resignation after four highly successful years at the helm of the Wildcats. Dunn is pursuing a career outside of coaching.
Dunn led the Wildcats to 76 wins across her four seasons, advancing to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national semi-finals each season and finishing as national runner-up on two occasions. She was named USCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Coach of the Year in 2022. She coached nine USCAA All-Americans during her tenure, including 2022 USCAA National Player of the Year Jordan McDuffie, 2022 USCAA National Student-Athlete of the Year Leslie Hodges, and
Jordan Durant, who became the only JWU Charlotte student-athlete to ever be named a three-time first team All-American in 2025. Dunn also coached seven USCAA All-Academic Team members.
Dunn won a total of 235 games across head coaching stops at Western Carolina, Jacksonville, and Johnson & Wales.
Dunn expressed her deep gratitude to members of the campus community that helped make her teams successful. "Thank you to Trudi Lacey and President Matheiu in all the support you have given me as the Head Coach at Johnson & Wales University.Ā It has been a very difficult decision to step away from a career that I have devoted 25 years to. It is tough to leave a very successful program and a group of young ladies that we have put so much time and effort into getting to know and building relationships with. They are an amazing group and are going to be missed dearly.Ā I know the future will remain bright for them and JWU Women's Basketball.Ā I look forward to supporting them from the stands this season."
JWU Charlotte athletic director Trudi Lacey is very thankful for the everlasting contributions Coach Dunn has made to the program during her time at Johnson & Wales. "Coach Dunn did an excellent job of elevating JWU CLT women's basketball program, both on the court and in the classroom.Ā Her coaching staff has learned from one of the best in the business and we look forward to continued success as we move to NCAA DIII provisional phase.Ā We are grateful to Coach Dunn for her dedication to our student-athletes, she has made a lasting impact."
