Kenyon Tops Baseball In Weekend Series

Gastonia, N.C. - Kenyon College took three games from Johnson & Wales Charlotte this weekend. The Owls won by scores of 9-0, 9-3, and 22-3.

Kenyon scored twice in the second inning and once in the third off JWU starting pitcher Joseph Mannix, though only one of those runs was earned. They added two more in the sixth and three in the seventh. Carlitos Ramirez had two hits at the plate for the Wildcats.

The Owls took a 3-0 lead over the first two innings of Saturday's second game, only to see the Wildcats rally to tie the score at 3 after three frames. Ramirez was in the middle of the action again for the Wildcats. He singled to lead off the second inning, and then scored on Dev Hernandez's double. Ramirez also collected a base hit in the third, driving in Isaiah Hatcher for JWU's second run, and later scored on Jacob Williams's base hit.

Kenyon inched ahead with a run in the fifth and then added five insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Hernandez and Ramirez each had two hits and one RBI in the game. John Quinones pitched 6.2 innings, giving up nine runs. He struck out five and walked three.

Sunday's blustery conditions saw the Owls strike for ten runs over the first two innings. JWU answered with two in the bottom of the inning, as Jayden Nezaj's single drove in Logan Howland and Alijah Rainey. Nezaj scored in the fourth inning when Hernandez tripled to right center field. Six Wildcat hurlers combined to allow thirteen earned runs, while striking out seven.

JWU returns home on Tuesday, February 24th to host Washington & Lee at the Stick Williams Dream Fields. First pitch is slated for 6pm.
