Huntersville, N.C. - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte baseball team picked up its second win of the season in the first game of a doubleheader against SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats got back-to-back homers from
Cannon Jackson and
Marco Fernandez in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead after one frame. SUNY Poly played long ball in the third inning as Quinn Hill hit a three-run homer to give them a 4-3 lead. Jackson and Fernandez repeated their first inning feat in the bottom of the sixth, again hitting back-to-back home runs to put JWU ahead 6-4.
Julian Hayes piched seven strong innings, allowing one earned run, walking just two batters while striking out nine. Jackson went 3-3 at the plate and drove in four.
The second game saw JWU jump in front with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, as they sandwiched RBI hits from
Stetson Stack and
Preston Whitaker around a
Sami Nezaj sac fly. The SUNY Poly bats awoke at that point, as they scored eighteen runs across the fifth and six innings. JWU's six hits were spread out amongst a half dozen players. Starting pitcher
McKinley Myles went 4.1 innings, allowing 5 earned runs. He walked one and struck out two.Â
