Wildcat Netters Split Matches At LaGrange

LaGrange, Ga. - The Johnson & Wales mens' and women's tennis teams traveled to LaGrange for a pair of matches against the Panthers.

The Wildcat men won 6-1 as Maxwell Frederick's retirement in the #4 singles match was the only blemish on the day. John Billinis and Hugo Cossias won the first doubles match 7-5 over Caleb Taff and James Willingham. Frederick teamed with Nathaniel Lawler to cruise 6-3 in #2 doubles, while Sam Cicciarello and Cayden Danzer won by an identical score in #3 doubles.

Billinis won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 in #1 singles. Cossais and Cicciarello also grabbed straight set wins in their singles contests. Justin Wagner defeated Willingham 6-2, 7-5 in #3 singles, while Cole Goodman-Gary took down Jesse Griffin 6-2, 6-4 in #6 singles.

The women's match was much closer. The Panthers earned the doubles point with wins in the #1 and #2 matches. Yasmine Wadleigh and Patricia Byars won #3 doubles 6-2 to prevent the sweep. Danielle Brake won the #2 singles match 6-1, 6-0 over Karla Wiley, and Anna-Katherine Medlin prevailed 6-0, 6-4 in the #3 singles tilt. Yasmine Wadleigh secured the third JWU point with a straight set win in #5 singles. The Wildcats could not get the clinching point from the remaining singles contests, falling 4-3 in the overall match.

The JWU women are next in action at home on 3/31 when they welcome Piedmont for a 2:00 PM match. The men travel to Brevard on 4/2 for a 4:00 PM contest.
