Hilton Head Island, S.C. - The Johnson & Wales tennis teams split a pair of matches on Wednesday at the PTR Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
The Wildcat women faced off against Waynesburg in the day's first match. The Yellow Jackets won 4-2.
Anna Katherine Medlin won her fifth consecutive singles match, defeating Waynesburg's Celeste Matsaudza 6-2, 6-3 in the #1 singles match.
Paloma Nitcholas captured her second singles win of the season as she defeated Julia Luzar in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3).
JWU's men got into the win column for the first time this year, as they defeated Dubuque 6-1. The Wildcats earned the doubles point with a sweep of the three matches. The pairs of
John Billinis and
Hugo Cossais and Justin Wager and
Cayden Danzer both won their matches 6-1, while the #2 doubles pair of
Maxwell Frederick and
Sam Cicciarello prevailed 6-4. Cossais and Cicciarello then cruised to straight set singles wins. Wagner won the #3 singles match 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) over Tanner Laube. Frederick also took the #4 tilt with a second set tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
Cole Goodman-Gary picked up his second win on the Hilton Head trip, knocking off Elia Desario 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 in #6 singles.Â
The JWU women wrap up play in Hilton Head on Thursday, March 5th when they take on Bridgewater at 12:30pm. The Wildcat men next play on Friday, March 6th against Wilkes at 10:00am.
