Women's Cross Country Nabs Runner-Up Finish At Winthrop

Rock Hill, S.C. - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte cross country season reached its midpoint on Friday as the Wildcats took part in the Winthrop Invitational.

The Wildcat women had their best performance of the season to date, taking runner-up honors. Grace Gant was the top finishing runner for the Wildcats. She finished 6th in a new personal best time of 20:03.0. Lesly Perez-Temozihui posted a top fifteen finish with a time of 25:11.5. Aitana Matuty was two spots behind Perez-Temozihui, posting a new personal best of 25:28.6. Ja'Niyah Henderson was the third Wildcat to post a personal best, finishing 23rd in a time of 28:19.8. Jalynn Wright ran a season's best 32:46.8 to finish 31st.

JWU's men saw three runners post personal bests. Justin Wagner posted a time of 30:26.1 to finish 24th. Justin Gavett ran a 32:50.5 for 27th place and Javuan Russell finished in 36:04.5 to claim 34th place.

The Wildcats are next in action on Friday, October 9th, when they run in the Royals Cross Country Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. First race starts at 3:30pm.
