The Lady Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University took on the Davidson County Community College on Thursday evening in front of a packed crowd in their new student center.
The Lady Wildcats started off to a strong start allowing them to open up an early lead against the Storm, courtesy of solid net play and great execution on the defensive end of the floor. Davidson County Community College would remain close throughout the game as a result of a strong service game and they would battle back numerous times throughout the game to pull even at 24-24. JWU would feed off the energy of the home crowd late in the game as they would edge DCCC 27-25, leading the match 1 game to 0.
As the match continued, poor communication defensively would plague the Lady Wildcats as the Storm would jump out to an early lead, and pull away to eventually win game two by a final score of 25-10, tying the match at 1 game apiece.
The Lady Wildcats would start game three with an aggressive up-tempo style of play as they jumped out to an early lead, and never looked back as they would go on to record a victory in game three with a final score of 25-18. JWU would benefit throughout the game from a strong service game and stifling defensive play. Kristen Hall would spark the Lady Wildcats as her superior all around play provided a much needed momentum boost entering game four.
JWU would enter game four looking to finish off the Storm of Davidson County Community College. The Lady Wildcats would start off strong, but trends from game two would reoccur and cost the Lady Wildcats as DCCC would go on to win the fourth game of the match by a final score of 25-16, tying the match at two games apiece.
Entering the final match both teams looked to record the victory. The Storm of DCCC would jump out to an early lead, but JWU would battle back to close the margin but would fall short in the last game. DCCC would record the victory with a final score of 15-9, winning the match three games to two.
Johnson & Wales University will look to get back on the right path tomorrow when they take on North Carolina Wesleyan College in the Lynchburg College Tournament.
