Box Score Charlotte, NC -- Thursday night was a night to celebrate the achievements of seniors Reanna Bray and Sarah Slaughter, and the Wildcats congratulated them on their careers with Johnson & Wales Volleyball in a ceremony before the match. Coach Phillips remembered Bray as "her first legit recruit" to the program. Bray was highly recruited by other schools and chose JWU to continue her academic and athletic careers. Her recruiting class was the first to play in the Student Center as freshmen, and Coach Phillips has always appreciated Bray's maturity and leadership. Slaughter joined the team as a transfer student in Winter 2012. She immediately got involved in the team's community service efforts and made herself an asset to the team in many ways. She started out this year as the team's manager, but she stepped forward when the team needed her and joined the roster in late September to help the Wildcats finish the season. Coach Phillips thanked her for showing the team what true loyalty and dedication are. The Wildcats wished both seniors well as they finish out their studies with hopes that they return to visit often.
It appeared that emotion got the best of the Wildcats as they came out flat in the first set and continued to look that way all night. All three sets were closely contested, but the Wildcats fell in straight sets with scores of 21-25, 21-25, and 23-25. They failed to get into a rhythm and respond to Guilford Tech with any consistency. Hitting errors plagued the team again as they had a negative hitting percentage in the first two sets and just managed to break even in the third. Lucy Herrmann led the Wildcats with 12 kills, and Reanna Bray added 5 kills in her last match as a Wildcat. Samantha Johnson led the Wildcat defense with 16 digs. Jackie Clifford had 14 digs, and Sarah Slaughter contributed 11 in her final outing.
The Wildcats finish the season at 13-23 after playing a tougher and more competitive schedule this season. They will take a brief break before beginning offseason workouts to come back stronger than ever in 2015.
