Box Score 2 Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales men's and women's tennis teams hosted Ferrum on Tuesday afternoon for a pair of spirited, competitive matches.
The Wildcat women claimed a victory in the #1 doubles match, as Maira Teurel and Eboni Montague defated Esme Atkinson and Megan Scott 8-6. Ferrum evened things up with an 8-6 win of their own in the #2 doubles match as Chelsea Zizzi and Madison Wright bested Hannah Stokes and Miranda Montes. The Panthers won the #3 doubles match by default.
Teurel took care of Zizzi 6-3, 6-1 in the #1 singles match, while Montague blanked Scott 6-0, 6-0 in the #2 singles contest. Wright came from down a set to upend Hannah Stokes 0-6, 7-6, 10-3 in the #3 singles match. Panther teammate Morgan Hundley also won a three setter, 6-7, 6-0, 10-5 over Miranda Montes in #5 singles. Ferrum got the match clinching point from Emma Loughrey as she defeated Ginger Gibson 6-0, 6-1.
The men also got off to a fast start as Jonathan Millwood and Samuel Wilder teamed in the #1 doubles match to dispatch Patrick Marsh and Jacob Glass 8-2. Ferrum's Viktor Johanssen and Kevin Nester blanked Devonte Hill and James Hagedoorn. Ferrum won the #3 doubles match by default.
Samuel Wilder knocked off Johanssen 7-6, 6-4 in the #1 singles match. Millwood followed suit in the #2 match, dispatching Marsh 6-1, 6-2. Glass shut out Devonte Hill 6-0, 6-0 in #3 singles, and Nester did the same to James Hagedoorn in #4 singles. Ferrum took the final two matches by default to win 6-3.
With the cancellation of Thursday's scheduled match, the men's season is complete. The women will take on both Pfieffer and Sweet Briar at Pfeiffer on Saturday, April 16th.
